Data Entry Taken to the Extreme

What is DataBuilder?

DataBuilder allows you to enter information for assets rapidly by just scanning barcodes.

DataBuilder is an add-on to FATS that takes less than 5 minutes to install.

How does it work?

Let's say you just received the following:

100 new computers - Compaq Model 123
100 new keyboards - Compaq Model 23K
100 new mice - Compaq 745
100 new monitors - Philips Magnavox 741
100 new printers - HP 6p
100 new desks - Boston Model 34
100 new chairs - Boston Model C4

Step 1 - Start DataBuilder on your PC - enter just 7 items - One item to describe a computer, one to describe a keyboard, one to describe a mouse, etc.

Step 2 - From your PC - print a "barcode catalog" - it's a catalog of items

Step 3 - With this barcode sheet in hand, walk to where your assets are located carrying only:

One scanner
One barcode sheet
700 asset labels

Do the following:

Scan the computer's barcode on the barcode catalog sheet
Put an asset tag on a computer, scan it
Put an asset tag on a computer, scan it
Put an asset tag on a computer, scan it
Put an asset tag on a computer, scan it
Put an asset tag on a computer, scan it
Put an asset tag on a computer, scan it

Scan the desk's barcode on the barcode catalog sheet
Put an asset tag on a desk, scan it
Put an asset tag on a desk, scan it
Put an asset tag on a desk, scan it
Put an asset tag on a desk, scan it

Scan the mouse barcode on the barcode catalog sheet
Put an asset tag on a mouse, scan it
Put an asset tag on a mouse, scan it
Put an asset tag on a mouse, scan it
Put an asset tag on a mouse, scan it

Keep going!

In this example You will put on and scan 700 asset barcodes
You will scan just 7 special barcodes from the barcode catalog

You will scan a total of 707 barcodes
and all your asset data will be entered into FATS

Step 4 - When you are finished putting on asset tags - upload the data to your PC and Data Builder fills in all the data for you and transfers it to FATS.

It's really fast and easy!

DataBuilder works only with the LaserLite, LaserLite Pro and Palm Pilot Scanner.

With the LaserLite Pro and Palm Pilot Scanner you can enter the item's serial number by either scanning or manual entry. With the LaserLite you can not enter the asset's serial number.

All three scanners work with location labels.

With DataBuilder you can enter assets into our fixed asset tracking system by just scanning barcodes.

And your complete asset inventory can be entered in a hurry! By just scanning barcodes DataBuilder lets you track the location of an asset and enter a complete description of the asset into the asset management system easily and efficiently.

FATS uses special barcode labels to "represent" a "standard" item that you have many of - for example let's say you have 100 computers that are all the same except for the serial number. DataBuilder let's you print a special barcode to represent everything about the "standard" computer - except for the serial number.

Just walk in a room and scan the location label as you enter. Put a regualar asset label on an item and scan it. Then scan the special barcode that DataBuilder printer to represent the item and key in the serial number = that's it. When you upload the barcode scans to DataBuilder, it will place a complete description of the asset and the asset location into the FATS Fixed Asset Inventory Software.
